About BiteCast

BiteCast is the iPhone fishing app that gives every spot a 0 to 100 Fish Score and tells you why.

What BiteCast is

BiteCast is a fishing forecast app for iPhone. Pick a lake, a river, a pier or a stretch of coast and BiteCast gives that water a Fish Score from 0 to 100 for every hour of the next eight days, for the species you are fishing for. Under every score it lists what is helping and what is hurting: water temperature and its trend, barometric pressure, wind, light, and on the coast, tide, sea temperature and waves.

Around the score, the app carries:

  • A map of 300,000 fishing spots, freshwater and saltwater, each with its own score, so the best water nearby is obvious at a glance. It shows 3D terrain and offshore depth contours, and you can save your own spots privately.
  • A photo fish identifier that names the species and logs the catch with the spot, the score and the conditions already filled in.
  • A species guide to 300 fish: the water temperature each one feeds best in, how big they get, and the baits and colors that work in clear, stained and muddy water.
  • An 8-day hourly forecast, with tides for coastal spots.
  • An AI fishing coach that knows your spot and today's conditions and answers in plain language.
  • A private catch log that fills itself in from the scanner.

Who makes it

BiteCast is built by a small independent team. The same team designs and builds every part of the app: the scoring model, the spot map, the species guide and the website you are reading. BiteCast launched on the App Store on July 27, 2026.

The guides, species pages and comparisons on this site are written by the BiteCast team. You can reach us at contact@bitecast.fish.

Why BiteCast exists

Most fishing forecasts hand you a number, or a row of fish icons, and stop there. You cannot tell whether a "good" day is good because of the pressure, the moon or the wind, so you cannot tell when to ignore it. BiteCast was built on the opposite idea: a forecast that shows its working. The same conditions always produce the same score, and every score comes with the factors behind it, so you can check the reasoning against what you know about your water.

What makes it different

  • Reasons, not just a rating. Today's score is broken down, hour by hour, into the factors that raised or lowered it.
  • Any spot, not only popular waters. BiteCast scores the water wherever you search or tap, not only places where other anglers have logged catches.
  • Built around the fish you target. Largemouth bass, walleye and redfish do not want the same conditions, so the score follows your target species.
  • A real saltwater model. On the coast the score is built on tide movement, sea temperature, wind and waves, not freshwater rules with a tide chart attached.
  • Private by default. Your spots and catches stay yours. There is no public feed and no login to create.
