About BiteCast

What is BiteCast?

BiteCast is the iPhone fishing app that gives every spot a 0 to 100 Fish Score and tells you why. It scores any lake, river or stretch of coast for every hour of the next eight days, for the species you are fishing for, and adds a map of ranked fishing spots, a photo fish identifier, a 300-species guide with baits, and an AI fishing coach.

Who makes BiteCast?

BiteCast is made by an independent team and launched on the App Store in July 2026. The app's name on the App Store is BiteCast: Fishing Forecast Map. More on the About page.

Is BiteCast free?

BiteCast is free to download from the App Store. The full app is a subscription, and you can start with a free trial before you pay anything.

Is BiteCast available on Android?

No. BiteCast is an iPhone app and needs iOS 16.4 or later.

Where does BiteCast work?

Anywhere with water. BiteCast scores freshwater and saltwater spots worldwide, and its spot map, tides and species coverage are strongest in the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe and Australia.

Is BiteCast the same as other apps called BiteCast?

No. Several unrelated apps and websites use the name BiteCast. BiteCast at bitecast.fish, the app with the Fish Score, is not affiliated with any of them. The official app is BiteCast: Fishing Forecast Map on the App Store.

How is BiteCast different from Fishbrain?

Fishbrain is a social network built on other anglers' logged catches. BiteCast is a forecast: it scores any spot from the conditions, hour by hour, and explains today's score. Fishbrain suits anglers who want to see what others are catching; BiteCast suits anglers who want to know when and where to go. The full BiteCast vs Fishbrain comparison goes feature by feature.

The Fish Score

What is the Fish Score?

The Fish Score is a 0 to 100 rating of how favorable conditions are for your target species at one spot in one hour, built from 28 live signals. 68 and up is good, 34 to 67 is fair and under 34 is slow. Today's score lists the factors that raised or lowered it. The full breakdown is on how the Fish Score works.

How accurate is the Fish Score?

The Fish Score is a consistent, reasoned read of conditions: the same weather, water and tide always produce the same number, and the factors behind it are shown so you can check them against what you know. It rates how favorable the conditions are, which is the part of fishing a forecast can know; where you cast and what you throw is still yours.

Does it work for my lake, or just the ocean?

Both. For lakes and rivers BiteCast uses a freshwater model built on water temperature, pressure, light, wind and each species' feeding rhythm. For the coast it switches to a saltwater model built on tide, sea temperature, wind and waves. It picks the right model for each spot automatically.

How far ahead does the forecast go?

Eight days, scored hour by hour. The daily number you see for each day is that day's best hour, because the swing inside a single day is usually bigger than the difference between two days.

Does the moon affect the Fish Score?

No. BiteCast shows solunar periods and the moon phase because many anglers plan around them, but the score is built on the conditions with far stronger evidence behind them: water temperature, pressure, light, wind and tide.

Using the app

How accurate is the fish identifier?

The identifier covers 300 species and names most common catches from one clear photo, then logs the catch with the spot, score and conditions filled in. When it is not confident, it says so and hands you a species picker instead of guessing. Always check local rules before keeping or eating a fish.

What does the AI coach do?

The coach is a chat that knows your spot, today's conditions and your recent catches, and gives direct advice on what to throw, where and when. It is recreational advice, not safety or professional advice.

Can BiteCast find fishing spots near me?

Yes. The map shows 300,000 fishing spots, from boat ramps and piers to lakes, river access and offshore reefs, each with its own Fish Score, and the list sorts the water nearest to you first.

Does it work offline?

Mostly. With no signal, BiteCast shows your last loaded forecast and says so, and catches you log offline sync automatically when you reconnect.

Which devices does BiteCast support?

iPhone, running iOS 16.4 or later.

Privacy

Are my spots and catches private?

Yes. Your saved spots and catches are private to your account by default, and there is no public feed. You can delete your account and all your data from inside the app at any time. The Privacy Policy has the detail.

Do I need to create an account?

No. BiteCast starts you with an anonymous account: no name, no email and no password needed.
